As an admirer of Mother Nature’s creations, you already know about Surrey for its collection of parks and urban-oases, but we know how overwhelming it can be crossing off Surrey’s parks from your bucket list because there are just SO many to see! To prioritise, we’ve compiled a list of Surrey’s parks and trails with the best views so you can catch that sunset or a fleeting moment of serenity.

Barnston Island
105 Dyke Rd

Barnston Island isn’t technically within the municipality of Surrey, however, you DO have to take a quick 5-minute ferry from the north-eastern tip of 104 Avenue to access the island. The island is bike-able and walk-able around the perimeter (just under 10km around the entire island) with two viewing points at the eastern and western tips. You can expect to see some great views of the Fraser River, and lots of farmland.

Mud Bay Park
13030 48 Avenue

Directly on the shores of Boundary Bay is the 3-kilometre-long trail at Mud Bay Park. With an abundance of migratory birds, as well as bald eagles, hawks, and herons, there’s a lot to see at Mud Bay Park. If you’re lucky, your visit will be timed with the CN Train that passes by every so often. The trail is also perfect for exploring on a bicycle.

Serpentine Wildlilfe Management Area
4600 Block of King George Boulevard

With magnificent views of the neighbouring mountains and the marshes and wetlands in the Fen itself, the Serpentine Fen is equipped with three observation towers for maximum impact. Be sure to stay on the trails themselves, as the Fen is important habitat for birds and wildlife.

Surrey Bend Regional Park
17775 104 Avenue

Surrey’s biggest and newest park boasts incredible views of mountain ranges, the Fraser River, and neighbouring communities. Located in Surrey’s north-eastern tip, Surrey Bend is a spectacular spot to watch the sunrise, or capture the beautiful water-front views.

Blackie Spit Park
3136 McBride Avenue

Located right next to Crescent Beach is Blackie Spit Park, Blackie Spit is known as one of the best places in Surrey to bird-watch, as well as a fantastic spot for photographers. With spectacularly unobstructed views of local mountain ranges that are especially beautiful in the Winter months, this is the perfect spot to sit on a bench and enjoy the beauty of the Pacific NorthWest.

1,001 Steps
12500 Block of 15A Avenue

Located at the western point of 15A Avenue in South Surrey, 1,001 Steps is a beautiful wooden staircase that winds down to the shores of a secluded cobble beach. With large rocks and a shoreline to the Boundary Bay waters, it’s worth the trip back up the stairs for the views. There aren’t actually a thousand steps, but it sure does feel like it!
