Exploring the city on your own two feet is a great way to discover Surrey’s expansive green spaces. You can explore artwork, stroll along the water, do some birdwatching, or take a hike in the woods, all without leaving Surrey.  There are over 200 parks in Surrey which means whether you’re planning a quick walk after work or more of a ramble on a sunny weekend, the city has paths and trail that will appeal to everyone.  So, lace up your shoes, grab your water and picnic supplies and check out five of our favourite walking trails.

Crescent Beach Boardwalk

Looking for the perfect walk year-round? Look no further than the Crescent Beach Boardwalk, where you can enjoy the calm ocean waves and walk out onto the pier for great views. If you need to, you can make a pitstop at Hooked Fish Bar for some fish tacos and refuel.

Holland Park and Gardens

Located in Surrey’s city centre, Holland Park is a lovely green space amongst the towering buildings of downtown. Flower lined pathways and water features make this city trail a gentle walk in the park.

The Semiahmoo Trail

3040 145A Street

This historic trail was originally a First Nations path and later used as overland entry route for those avoiding the mining licensing costs and miners head tax during the Gold Rush. It then grew to be the main road to the US border for wagons in the late 1800’s. Now, you’d never guess it was so widely used, as it’s currently a quiet walk through a wooded area that leads to the Nicomekl River.

Serpentine Wildlife Management Area

4600 Block of King George Hwy

Open all year round, the Serpentine Fen is a great place to visit anytime, but it’s especially lovely in the Fall when most of the 130 different species of birds that reside in the area can be spotted. Bird watchers won’t want to miss this hour and a half walk through a nature reserve.

Bear Creek Park

The trails and pathways through Bear Creek Park can feel like a quiet walk in the park, but there is lots to see and do among the Redwoods: see salmon spawning, discover whimsical garden statues, or take a break at one of the sheltered picnic tables. Your littles will love a ride on the Bear Creek Park Train and make time for a quick round of mini-golf.
