Father’s Day is just around the corner and with the hustle and bustle of the kids getting out of school and gearing up for summer, sometimes Dad’s special day gets overlooked (Sorry Dad!). We know that finding a great gift or a fun activity for Father’s Day can be a tricky one, so we’ve rounded up some fun, Surrey activities that we know Dad will love.

Go Fishing for Free

Whether Dad is into fishing or just trying it for the first time, this weekend is the time to check it out! June 13 – 15, is BC’s Family Fishing Weekend. Every year, on this weekend only, the BC government waives the requirement for Canadian residents to have a basic freshwater fishing licence.

Head to Green Timbers Urban Forest for a relaxing afternoon fishing for Rainbow Trout in a beautiful, accessible setting. And, if you don’t own a fishing rod & tackle, the Surrey Nature Centre (inside Green Timbers) offers gear you can rent for free.

For a more hands-on experience, join the "Fysh Brain Family Fishing Event" on Sunday, June 15, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Green Timbers. Learn the basics of still water fishing, including how to cast a rod, bait a hook, handle your catch, and follow angler etiquette. It’s a great way to spend time outdoors and make memories with the family!

Dine Out with Dad

Treat the incredible dads in your life to a memorable celebration at Ruex Café and Bar known for its warm and stylish atmosphere.

On Sunday, June 15, don’t miss their special Pulled Pork Benny on House-Made Cornbread... a flavour-packed brunch feature made just for the occasion. Plus, every dad dining in gets a FREE day pass to Iron Nation Gym, because strength and celebration go hand in hand.

Prefer a global flavour? Choose from our curated list of local restaurants on the Surrey Spice Trail for the foodie dads craving something bold and unexpected.

Go Bird Watching

Did you know that Surrey has several parks that provide year-round birdwatching? In fact, there are over 200 unique species of birds to see in Surrey! Grab your binoculars if you have them, pick up picnic supplies and head out on a birdwatching adventure exploring Surrey's serene parks. It’s an ideal way to appreciate Surrey’s winged wildlife in its natural habitat and get a little exercise at the same time. Here’s information about where to go and what to look for.

Looking to make it extra special for Father’s Day weekend? Join local birding guide Kris Cu for a “Birds and Brews” bird walk on Friday, June 14. This expert-guided experience covers the basics of birdwatching, local conservation efforts, and includes a complimentary coffee or tea. A great way to bond with Dad and learn something new together!

Go Whale Watching

Whale-watching should be on everybody’s bucket list!  White Rock Sea Tours & Whale Watch Vancouver depart from the Crescent Beach Marina in South Surrey. Hop on board their state-of-the-art rigid hull inflatable boat and head out on the ocean to watch these majestic creatures in their natural environment.

Go for a Bike Ride

Bike riding is a fantastic family activity and there’s no better way to explore Surrey’s neighbourhoods and parks than by bike. Cyclists of all skill levels can find their happy place to ride as Surrey has an extensive network of parks, trails, gardens and green spaces … all available by bike. Check out some of our favourite local rides, and snack stops, because everybody needs a pre- or post-ride treat!

Go for a Walk

Take Dad for a stroll on one of Surrey’s many walking trails. The boardwalk at Crescent Beach in South Surrey is a favourite of dads and kids. Stroll along the ocean, walk out onto the pier for great views and build a sandcastle. And, if sustenance is in order, make a pitstop at Hooked Fish Bar for fish tacos, or head over to Bravo Gelato for traditional Italian gelato and sorbetti.

Go Golfing

Hit the greens with the family at Birdies and Buckets. This Par 3, 9-hole course is suitable for budding golfers of any ability. The facility also features a driving range with fun targets for teaching opportunities.

Father’s Day at the Farm

Celebrate Dad with trains and history this Father’s Day at Historic Stewart Farm.  The Greater Vancouver Garden Railway Club will be onsite with a large-scale model railway display on the lawn, and be sure to tour the farmhouse and outbuildings.

Stay & Play with Dad at the Museum of Surrey

Head to the Museum of Surrey this Father’s Day between 1-3 pm for a fun afternoon of oversized board games, a scavenger hunt, and make a craft together as a souvenir of the day.
